In my years of working with gardeners, I have found that there are two types. The ones that spring for expensive workspace tables, and the ones that wing it with a small, or no budget at all. Neither identified the more or less committed gardeners, not does it always coordinate with those with more money.

Those who furnish to impress, go for things like oversized cedar potting benches, matching framed chalkboards, and coordinating tool holders. They will have spend several hundreds of dollars or pounds on their gorgeous garden workshop furniture. This does often make a statement that implies the gardener is very serious about their outdoor work, but it is not always so.

And those in the other camp, they will have rigged unused pieces of household furniture, or been inventive with articles that they have found at market sales. But, you need not belong to one or the other groups, you can be in the middle if you do the following.

Attach a sheet of brightly painted lattice to the wall of your work area to hang your tools, and paint the frame of an otherwise unimpressive chalkboard to match or coordinate. Then, get yourself one of those fairly inexpensive rectangular plastic outdoor garden tables and cover it with an adorable oil cloth with dimensions that will conceal every inch of the table. And in a pattern with colors that compliment those of the lattice and board frame.

As care and maintenance of outdoor furniture always seems to be a hot topic over here, we will continue on with our tips on this subject. We are now covering teak furniture, as it has become increasingly popular over the last decade, and can be quite an investment. While no one wants to waste money on outdoor furniture, when you buy it at a pretty price it can be even more critical to become familiar with the correct form of upkeep.

Right off the bat, you can start to treat the teak like the superstar that it is by brushing oil evenly over the grain. Take care not to overlap the brushstokes. From the moment you begin to treat with oil, you must maintain the efforts. If you do not, then you can expect that it will turn a silver colour and will be all the more susceptible to stains.

Not only should you be diligent with the oil application, but it should only be done when the weather will not involve dew, rain or frost in the immediate future. The oil needs time to dry fully, and such weather will prohibit that from happening.

I imagine it will come as no surprise for me to say that I have a list of things to do that is beginning to weigh heavily on me. So many tasks are begun, but left unfinished because I get torn in another direction. Many times, the only reason certain chores are completed is because there is some kind of deadline on them. This was what was going on when I finally got around to get home insurance quotes from Direct Line home insurance. Is any of this sounding all too familiar?

Well, with me being in the furniture business, I know how important it is to have the contents of your home insured, and any lapses can prove disastrous. No pressure there, right? So, obviously I had to get on the ball, but I also had other deadlines looming, and things I should get a handle on too. Therefore, this time around I was committed to accomplishing more than just insuring the things I have spent decades filling my home with, I wanted to multitask. Not only with this endeavor, but as often as possible to lighten the load.

Basically, for my own peace of mind, and sanity to some extent, I must get out from under the weight of this list of tasks. I must regain control of my time management, and no longer be burdened by a lack of it. Thus, I will be taking up every offer to multi-task, and then happily scratch off another two or more things from the list.

And that is the point of this article, because I want you to know how to check off more than one thing on that to do list when the opportunity knocks. From this point forward, this is going to be a reoccurring theme in my posts, because it truly is the way to go.

So, to get started, look for companies that handle more than one thing. In the case of the home insurance policy you can also get extras like Family Legal Protection, ID Fraud Assistance, and even Annual Travel Insurance. I like to think of it as a way of double dipping, being able to handle a couple items all in one action. From here on out, I firmly believe this is the way to go, and the companies that make this possible are going to be top of my list to receive my business.

While mosaic furniture is not uncommonly found in gardens, it seems to be somewhat overlooked when it comes to upkeep. One thing that we rarely see covered in articles is how to maintain you mosaic top outdoor furniture during winter months. As is true with most outdoor furniture, when we do see guidance being given, it is highly recommended that they be covered throughout winter. Depending on the degree of the weather’s harshness, we do not think this is always necessary, but are all the more concerned with other care.

More importantly is the attention that is given to the mosaic over the course of the entire year. The mosaic artwork itself should be treated with a hard beeswax on a regular basis. The coating should be thin, if you are in fact applying it as instructed. Not only will the beeswax protect the tile from stains, it will enhance its beauty. When washing down the base (metal) with soapy hot water, look for any chipping or cracking. These will need to be repair with a matching metal paint in order to block rust from setting in.

First thing I saw when I woke up this morning was that commercial with the doggie saying, Looking for house insurance? Oh yes! Try Churchill house insurance. It was almost as if my husband willed it to be on, or had planned it. He knows that switching out house insurance over to a new company is on my to do list, and every now and then he ever so gently tries to prompt me to work more feverishly to get some stuff done. I suppose that actually set the day’s events in motion for me, as it turns out I ended up encountering Churchill another two times.

Still, I already had my day planned and ventured off to one of two furniture expositions I must hit this month. This is a great way for me to catch a glimpse of what is hot right now, and what is to come. What I observed is that the standard colours that we have become all too familiar with are going to be joined with an explosion of interesting options. I guess I had that ad in the back of my head, as my initial response was, Oh Yes!

In upcoming seasons, we can look forward to more vibrant colour choices like chartreuse, mustard, and fuchsia. These bolder, brighter and in my humble opinion more brilliant shade far surpass the dull taupe, chocolate and sand that have dominated this market for too long. Now that is not to say that the classic colours will not still be what is best suited in many settings, but it is definitely time for options to be pushed to the forefront, instead of being scarce.

Once back in my car, I caught another Churchill commercial on the radio, and was again reminded that I needed to get around to the insurance, and travel arrangements for the Christmas holidays, and collect the boxes of nonperishables for a food drive, and so on and so forth. At this juncture, I started to think of Churchill as a personal PA, reminding me to get certain jobs done. The big difference being that a real personal assistant would be hands on in getting some of my stuff done, not just remind me to do it.

Next, I did manage to pick up some of those boxes and to bring them to our church to be catalogued, and stored. But, there are still over twenty more pickups to be completed by next Friday. So, then upon arriving home, I went through our mail and saw a print ad with Churchill on it, and it made be commit to putting the insurance issue to rest tomorrow. No doubt I will get one last nudge to do it when I wake up tomorrow and the tv goes on. But, I do not need it, message received, it is top on my list.

Something that you will find to be extremely useful when deciding upon outdoor furniture is which materials are most resilient. Without this information, you could be looking at more upkeep than you are willing to commit to, or replacements sooner than you ever imagined. Here is a summary of what you need to know to make a good selection.

Wrought iron has been substantially improved, and know comes with an undercoating and powder coating finishes. This has eliminated the bad habit it previously had of chipping. Aluminium is rustproof, so no worries there, and teak will fade from its brown tone to a grey one, but will seemingly last forever. Now, as for wicker, as long as you specify that it is outdoor wicker, it will be made of a combo of resin material and actual wicker so it should endure quite a bit. Finally for fabrics, the easiest of things to grasp is that acrylic fabrics are very resilient, and are stuffed with polyester, which drains well so these are a dynamite choice. Aside form this, you can decide on looks alone.

I am often asked by clients as to whether or not I think it is best to buy garden furniture from a company that specializes in that alone, or organisations that cast a wider net. Ah, that is a tough one to answer. And admittedly, at different junctions of my career my answer has undoubtedly varied. But here and now what do I think, well it is as follows.

I am no longer a fan of the super stores, as they have crushed the little guy so very many times, whether it be in the furniture, book or grocery business. Having that out in the open, I must concede that they are able to give better prices on average. They can make up packages that leave customers benefiting greatly, and often have amazing return policies.

Now, I am not just brushing off my response, and saying that it all comes down to an ethical responsibility. For I have made tons of purchases from both mom and pop, and Home Depot. The answer I fear dear readers is that you have to do a balancing act, and that my fine friends involves the despised leg work. In my opinion, there is no blanket answer to this question, it is dependent on too many variables.

A garden office, or studio sounds so inviting, but so beyond reach for several different reasons for the majority of people. There is the issue of space, cost, vision, talented craftsmen and many other things. Still, if you are eager to make such a dream a reality you might like the idea of working with a project manager who specializes in outdoor offices.

Yes, they do exist, and there are whole companies that are focused on this specific work. In fact, all of the ones I have come across will come to your site and give you a forty-five minute survey for free. During this meeting the project manager will discuss your ideas and requirements for this space. They will also cover what if any building regulations may apply to your location. And best of all in my opinion they will aid you in narrowing down what will look and function best based upon the terrain, your wishes., and your budget.

All of this will bring things into focus for you, and assist you in how to proceed. Not to mention very often, within twenty-four hours of the visit, you will receive a written quote. Then you can go out and use it to negotiate with whomever you have in the running for this project.

Nearly anyone with a garden that is not as of yet equipped for outdoor living has daydreamed of all that it could become. Visions of sunny days filled with barbeques, sunbathing, drinks parties, stargazing and game playing are replete with all the ideal accouterments. These include the perfect set of patio furniture to accommodate both friends and family comfortably, grilling stations and a few personalized touches such as a swing or chiminea.

Whether the dream be to create a space for simple gatherings, completing arts and crafts, holding casual work meetings, or a combination of several purpose led activities a plan is integral. You may long for a space that will be designed in a manner as to be flexible enough to be used for just about anything you can think to do in the fresh air, or perhaps you are very focused upon what will be scheduled in your outdoor oasis. But, you should identify which you aspire to produce in order to get everything just right in the planning process, and the ultimate result.

If you are starting with a complete blank canvas then you are mighty lucky on one level, but possibly unlucky on another. A totally clean slate might be overwhelming for some individuals to even contemplate tackling, and for others it may seem like the best scenario possible. All in all, both might end up being true for you. But any hurdles, whether they be budget, creative or technical will be ironed out during the blueprinting stage of your endeavor. This is precisely why a master plan is so essential.

To get started, draw out a sample of the space that is to become your outdoor living room. It need not be perfectly to scale, but this will assist you in formalizing your vision. It will also help you to establish a layout if you do not fill the space in with drawn articles of interest such as the chairs, tables, or fire pit. Instead, cut out replicas of these items, apply a tucked under piece of tape to each and stick them where you intend to place them. This will keep things flexible for you to shuffle them around, without the urge to begin the drawing again, or erasing and redrawing constantly.

Once you have found the precise placement for all of the larger pieces of outdoor furniture you will feel more comfortable in making those purchases. In addition, you will be able to do more than just estimate what decorative, and smaller things you will require to properly finish the room off. There should be no big ticket surprises if you follow this strategy, and that makes it well worth the effort of going through this exercise.

If you were always a fan of the Adirondack chair, then you will almost definitely be a proponent of the Emmet lounge chair. It has been touted as the modern design of the good old Adirondack. The similarities are quite obvious upon viewing, but it is really the material that makes this a new and improved version in our opinion.

The Emmet lounge chair is made of one hundred percent recycled plastic or, HDPE, so it is one of our favourite things, yes you can say it with me if you like, eco-friendly. According to the description, this chair is made up of the equivalent of four hundred recycled milk jugs. Another great thing about it is that it comes in seven colours: white, red, brown, green, grey, black and blue.

Of a quirky nature, this seat has a bottle opener incorporated into the design. Where I am from that is what we call lagniappe. A little something extra, indeed. The only thing that is left is to find out if they plan to make an ottoman to go with, because that would positively be the icing on the cake.
